Westminster Abbey Sarcophagus Skeleton Re-dated to Medieval Monk

Times of India - India · india

A Roman-era sarcophagus at Westminster Abbey, previously believed to hold the remains of Valerius Amandinus, has been re-examined. Modern forensic analysis indicates the skeleton dates from AD 987–1052, ruling out the Roman occupant. The remains likely belong to a high-ranking medieval monk, possibly one of the abbey's early abbots. This re-dating suggests the Roman coffin was reused centuries later for a prestigious burial. The skeleton is estimated to be of a man approximately 5ft 9in tall, aged 35-49.
