The current El Niño could cause an estimated 451,000 additional heat-related deaths globally in its first nine months compared to a normal year. This is according to a report from the University of Chicago's Climate Impact Lab. Countries in the Global South, including Nigeria, Sudan, Niger, Chad, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Brazil, and India, are expected to face the highest impacts.
