Gaza War Escalates India's Embrace of Israel Under Modi

India's stance on Israel has shifted significantly since 2014, with the Gaza war appearing to accelerate this trend. While traditionally a supporter of Palestine, New Delhi has expanded business with Israel, even welcoming far-right minister Bezalel Smotrich in September 2025. This occurred as the EU considered sanctions against him. Prime Minister Modi visited Israel in February, with Netanyahu calling him "more than a friend." Despite historical advocacy for diplomacy, India has reportedly exported weapons to Israel during the Gaza conflict, becoming its largest weapons buyer.
