US Federal Reserve policymakers have received further justification to delay another interest rate increase, as recent government data indicates a faster-than-expected cooling in the labour market. Employers added only 29,000 jobs last month, falling short of economists' predictions, with August's gains also revised downwards. The unemployment rate saw a slight increase to 4.2 per cent. This slowdown in hiring has reduced the probability of a rate hike at the Fed's October meeting, though a December increase remains highly anticipated.
