Indonesia Wildfires Cause Orange Haze, Choking Regions and Affecting Neighbors

Hindustan Times · environment

Indonesia is experiencing severe wildfires, blanketing regions like Central Kalimantan in a dense, orange haze that drastically reduces visibility and creates dystopian scenes. This toxic smog has spread beyond Indonesia's borders, affecting neighboring countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. The "slash and burn" agricultural practice is a primary cause, with the government suspending licenses for 26 companies linked to the fires. President Prabowo Subianto has ordered immediate action, prioritizing the resolution of this crisis. Efforts to combat the fires include dry ice dispersal trials in South Sumatra.
