A judicial commission's report has revealed that 22 deaths in Indore last December due to contaminated water stemmed from systemic failures dating back over 30 years. The 112-page report by Justice Sushil Kumar Gupta identified three layers of lapses in the water and sewerage systems, which were laid between 1990 and 2004. These projects violated central guidelines, leading to cracks that allowed sewage to contaminate drinking water. The report holds at least eight municipal corporation officers responsible for ignoring complaints and causing delays.

एक न्यायिक आयोग की रिपोर्ट में खुलासा हुआ है कि पिछले दिसंबर में इंदौर में दूषित पानी से हुई 22 मौतें 30 साल से ज़्यादा पुरानी सिस्टम की गड़बड़ियों की वजह से हुईं। जस्टिस सुशील कुमार गुप्ता की 112 पन्नों की रिपोर्ट में पानी और सीवेज सिस्टम में तीन स्तर की चूक की पहचान की गई है, जिन्हें 1990 और 2004 के बीच बिछाया गया था। इन प्रोजेक्टों ने केंद्रीय दिशानिर्देशों का उल्लंघन किया, जिससे दरारें आ गईं और सीवेज पीने के पानी में मिल गया। रिपोर्ट में कम से कम आठ नगर निगम अधिकारियों को शिकायतों को नज़रअंदाज़ करने और देरी करने का ज़िम्मेदार ठहराया गया है।
