Tamil Nadu's Samacheer Kalvi: The Journey To Equitable Education

The Hindu · india

Until 2010, Tamil Nadu operated four separate school boards, leading to disparities in educational quality. Educationists long advocated for a uniform system to ensure equal learning opportunities for all students. Following a promise in the 2006 Assembly elections, the DMK government formed a committee which recommended merging the boards. An ordinance in 2009 and the subsequent Tamil Nadu Uniform System of School Education Act, 2010, led to the introduction of 'Samacheer Kalvi' or uniform education, with new syllabi and textbooks.
