IOC Cuts 12 Committees, Including Human Rights, Raising Oversight Concerns
Times of India · sports
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is reducing its permanent committees from 31 to 19, a move announced on October 16. This restructuring, led by president Kirsty Coventry, will close bodies like the Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Commission and the Advisory Committee on Human Rights. The IOC states this will allow for more focused engagement on key issues by forming smaller expert teams as needed. However, the decision raises questions about the future oversight of human rights and gender equality matters ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
