Two Marmots Rescued After Urban California Adventures

Two yellow-bellied marmots were found separately in San Francisco and Antioch, California, after apparently hitching rides in vehicles. Wildlife rescuers believe the animals may have travelled from mountainous areas like Tahoe or the Sierra Nevada. One marmot was discovered in San Francisco's Mission District on September 5, and another was later found in Antioch. After being rescued and appearing confused by their urban surroundings, both animals were released nearly 7,800 feet up near Lake Tahoe. Marmots typically inhabit high mountain regions and hibernate for extended periods.
