Kerala Assembly Sees Heated Debate Over Power Crisis

The Hindu · india

The Keralam Legislative Assembly witnessed heated exchanges between the ruling UDF and Opposition LDF over monsoon power cuts and a cancelled power purchase deal. The Opposition blamed the five-month-old UDF government's inefficiency for the crisis, alleging it was created to benefit corporates. Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan assured the State-run Kerala State Electricity Board would remain public and promised a new power policy. The government cited increased consumption, weak monsoon, and lack of long-term agreements for the shortage, while also blaming the LDF for cancelling contracts.
