A bench questioned how citizens could trust the police under such circumstances, suggesting the CBI take over all investigations in Uttar Pradesh. The court remarked that the police's actions appeared to be a cover-up. The observations were made during a hearing on a woman's plea challenging anticipatory bail granted to an accused. The petitioner alleged the accused's name was added only after the court sought an explanation.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने उत्तर प्रदेश पुलिस की उस FIR पर कड़ी आलोचना की है जो उसने एक अज्ञात व्यक्ति के खिलाफ दर्ज की थी, जबकि आरोपी की पहचान पता थी। बेंच ने सवाल किया कि ऐसे में नागरिक पुलिस पर कैसे भरोसा कर सकते हैं, और सुझाव दिया कि CBI उत्तर प्रदेश की सभी जांचों को अपने हाथ में ले ले। कोर्ट ने कहा कि पुलिस की कार्रवाई लीपापोती जैसी लग रही थी। ये टिप्पणियां एक महिला की याचिका पर सुनवाई के दौरान की गईं, जिसमें आरोपी को दी गई अग्रिम जमानत को चुनौती दी गई थी। याचिकाकर्ता ने आरोप लगाया कि अदालत द्वारा स्पष्टीकरण मांगने के बाद ही आरोपी का नाम जोड़ा गया था।
