Maharashtra to Build Caste-Blind Hostels Promoting Social Unity Among Students

Hindustan Times · politics

Maharashtra's state government plans to construct "integrated" hostels for students from various communities, including SC, ST, OBC, and Maratha, to discourage caste-based politics and foster social unity. These hostels will accommodate 1,000 students at the divisional level and 500 at the district level. Previously, separate hostels existed for different castes, leading to political conflicts over reservation benefits. The new initiative aims to strengthen the social fabric and promote equality among young people by providing quality accommodation and infrastructure in accessible locations.
