India's Current Account Deficit Widens in Q1 FY27 Due to Trade Gap
Business Standard · business
India's current account deficit (CAD) widened in the first quarter of FY27, reversing a surplus from the previous quarter. This shift was driven by a significant increase in the merchandise trade deficit, which rose to $86.1 billion, representing 9.47 per cent of GDP. While the services surplus partially offset the trade gap, foreign portfolio investment outflows also strained the capital account. A substantial drawdown of forex reserves financed the deficit, though recent FDI trends offer some positive outlook.
