India May Soon Count Unpaid Household Work In Labour Surveys
TV9 Hindi · india
India's Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has proposed to include unpaid household and care work in the PLFS starting January 2027. Currently, women spend an average of 4 hours and 49 minutes daily on unpaid domestic chores, significantly more than men. This 'invisible labour' is crucial for household functioning but is not recognized as employment. The proposed change aims to better capture the time spent on these tasks, potentially aiding in policy formulation for women's employment and childcare.
Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) ने January 2027 से PLFS में unpaid household और care work को शामिल करने का प्रस्ताव दिया है।
