Karnataka Urges Centre to Scrap 2-Year Pump Check

Karnataka has urged the Union government to withdraw two notifications that relax the verification of fuel dispensers, warning consumers risk being shortchanged. State minister Rizwan Arshad sought withdrawal of the extension of mandatory verification from 12 months to 24 months and the allowance of private testing centres. Karnataka's own survey found 95.4% of inspected pumps needed recalibration, with many nozzles showing deviation. The state argues doubling the verification interval without a scientific study would increase consumer risk.

कर्नाटक ने केंद्र सरकार से कहा है कि वह फ्यूल डिस्पेंसर की जांच में ढील देने वाली दो नोटिफिकेशन वापस ले ले, क्योंकि इससे ग्राहकों को नुकसान हो सकता है। राज्य के मंत्री रिजवान अरशद ने कहा कि फ्यूल पंपों की जांच की मियाद 12 महीने से बढ़ाकर 24 महीने करने और प्राइवेट टेस्टिंग सेंटरों को इजाजत देने वाली नोटिफिकेशन वापस ली जानी चाहिए। कर्नाटक के अपने सर्वे में पाया गया कि जांचे गए 95.4% पंपों को रीकैलिब्रेट करने की ज़रूरत थी, और कई नोजल में गड़बड़ी पाई गई। राज्य का कहना है कि बिना किसी वैज्ञानिक अध्ययन के जांच की मियाद दोगुनी करने से ग्राहकों का जोखिम बढ़ जाएगा।
