मद्रास हाईकोर्ट ने एक सिंगल जज के उस आदेश को रद्द कर दिया है जिसमें तमिलनाडु सरकार को ट्यूबेक्टोमी सर्जरी के बाद गर्भवती होने वाली एक महिला को ₹3 लाख मुआवजा देने का निर्देश दिया गया था। अदालत ने कहा कि एक सरकारी आदेश पहले से ही फेल ट्यूबेक्टोमी के मामलों में ₹60,000 मुआवजे का प्रावधान करता है। सिंगल जज की सहानुभूति को स्वीकार करते हुए, बेंच ने कहा कि उच्च मुआवजे के आदेश को बनाए नहीं रखा जा सकता। अदालत ने यह भी बताया कि लापरवाही के दावों को सिविल कोर्ट में साबित करने की आवश्यकता होती है, न कि रिट याचिका के माध्यम से, और नसबंदी में विफलता का एक छोटा जोखिम होता है।
