Rahul Gandhi Acquitted in 2018 Defamation Case Involving Amit Shah Remarks

A special MP/MLA court in Sultanpur has dismissed a 2018 criminal defamation case against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. The case stemmed from alleged objectionable remarks Gandhi made about Amit Shah, then BJP president, at a Bengaluru rally in May 2018. Gandhi had referred to Shah as an accused in a murder case. A local BJP politician filed the defamation complaint in August 2018. Gandhi had previously appeared before the court and secured bail in 2023. The court's decision acquits Gandhi of the charges.
