India Probes Pernod Ricard, Diageo Over Scotch Import Duty Benefits
TV9 Hindi · business
Indian tax authorities are investigating major liquor companies Pernod Ricard and Diageo for allegedly misclassifying Scotch whisky imports. The companies are suspected of showing imports in incorrect categories to unfairly benefit from reduced import duties under the recent India-UK trade deal. This deal, effective, lowered duties on certain Scotch whiskies from 150% to 75%. Both companies, which import Scotch concentrate to produce popular brands like Royal Stag, are cooperating with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and tax officials.
Pernod Ricard, Diageo
