J&K Assembly & CM Called 'Lame Duck'

Former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi stated that Jammu and Kashmir currently has a "lame duck" assembly and chief minister with limited powers. He questioned the meaning of an elected chief minister when representative institutions are not under their direct control. Quraishi also cautioned against exploiting Kashmiri Pandits' killings, noting more Muslims have been killed by terrorists. He stressed Kashmir needs democracy, reconciliation, and a revival of shared belonging.

पूर्व मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त एस.वाई. कुरैशी ने कहा कि जम्मू-कश्मीर में अभी "लंगड़ी बत्तख" जैसी विधानसभा और मुख्यमंत्री हैं, जिनकी शक्तियां सीमित हैं। उन्होंने सवाल उठाया कि जब चुनी हुई संस्थाएं सीधे उनके नियंत्रण में नहीं हैं तो एक निर्वाचित मुख्यमंत्री का क्या मतलब है। कुरैशी ने कश्मीरी पंडितों की हत्याओं का फायदा उठाने के खिलाफ चेतावनी दी और कहा कि आतंकवादियों ने अधिक मुसलमानों को मारा है। उन्होंने जोर दिया कि कश्मीर को लोकतंत्र, सुलह और साझा अपनेपन की बहाली की जरूरत है।
