Trump Administration Appeals Judge's Order to Reinstate Green Card Lottery

The Trump administration has appealed a federal judge's order to reinstate the 2027 Diversity Visa lottery. The government also requested the judge suspend her directive pending the appellate review. U.S. District Judge Jinsook Ohta had previously issued a preliminary injunction, ordering the State Department to restore the program. The lottery allocates approximately 55,000 diversity visas annually to individuals from countries with historically limited immigration to the U.S. The judge found the State Department provided insufficient justification for indefinitely suspending the program.
