The Hindu · india
Curative religious rituals commenced on November 3 in Shivamogga following an untoward incident during the Dasara procession on October 21. An elephant carrying the howdah carrying the idol of Chamundeshwari suddenly turned and ran amok, damaging a portion of the howdah and some vehicles, though no casualties were reported. Priests began performing homas and havanas at the Kote Seetharamanjaneya Swamy and Kote Chandika Durgaparameshwari temples. These rituals, based on advice from religious experts and texts, are intended to prevent future occurrences and will continue until November 7.
