FPI Selling Nuance: Primary Market Appetite Remains Strong

Indian equities faced pressure with the Nifty 50 extending its losing streak to seven weeks, influenced by crude prices, US yields, and geopolitical uncertainty. While provisional data showed significant FPI equity outflows of Rs 11,490 crore, settled data revealed a net inflow of Rs 3,843 crore. This divergence is due to continued FPI investment in primary markets, particularly IPOs, indicating selective allocation rather than a wholesale exit from India. Foreign investors are favouring specific primary opportunities over broad secondary market exposure.
