Scientists have discovered that certain tropical trees, specifically within the Clusia genus, have evolved a unique method of photosynthesis allowing them to absorb carbon dioxide at night. This CAM photosynthesis strategy helps them conserve water, a crucial adaptation for drought-hit regions. Researchers compared genomes of three Clusia species, revealing that an ancient genome duplication event reshaped how these plants store carbon dioxide.
