A BJP MLA has attributed the deaths of 19 people in a Durga Puja pandal stampede in Kolkata to the public's mentality. Ratna Debnath stated that if people had not gathered in such large numbers, they would not have been caught in the rain, implying their own actions led to the tragedy. She questioned the utility of demanding an investigation when an SIT has already been formed.

एक बीजेडी विधायक ने कोलकाता में दुर्गा पूजा पंडाल में मची भगदड़ में 19 लोगों की मौत के लिए जनता की मानसिकता को जिम्मेदार ठहराया है। रत्ना देबनाथ ने कहा कि अगर लोग इतनी बड़ी संख्या में इकट्ठा नहीं होते तो वे बारिश में नहीं फंसते, जिसका अर्थ है कि उनकी अपनी हरकतों से यह त्रासदी हुई। उन्होंने इस बात पर सवाल उठाया कि जब पहले से ही एक एसआईटी का गठन किया जा चुका है तो जांच की मांग करने का क्या मतलब है।
