Mahesh Asabe, a farmer from Solapur, Maharashtra, has achieved an annual turnover of ₹2 crore by diversifying his family's farm. Initially growing traditional crops, the family transitioned to dragon fruit on three acres in 2013-14, a decision influenced by the crop's low water requirements. Today, their farm, Rukmini Farms and Nursery, spans 60 acres and includes pomegranates, custard apples, and guavas alongside dragon fruit, which alone generates ₹1.25 crore annually. Mahesh's agricultural engineering education and international training in modern farming techniques significantly contributed to the farm's success.
