Karnataka Bus Fares to Increase by November 5, Citing Losses

Times of India · india

Karnataka's state-run transport corporations will raise bus fares starting November 5, adding to commuter costs just days after milk prices increased. Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh confirmed the hike, stating the exact increase will be decided on November 4. He attributed the need for the fare revision to a Rs 2,000 crore annual loss caused by five diesel price hikes by the central government, pushing cumulative losses to Rs 9,000 crore. Suresh defended the decision, noting that Karnataka's bus fares remain lower than in other states.
