India's Agri-Seed Sector Leads Receipts Under Benefit Sharing Regulations
Times of India · business
India's agri-seed sector has generated the largest share of receipts under benefit sharing regulations during April-September this fiscal year. The Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) mechanism ensures that local genetic resources creating commercial value result in fair shares flowing back to states and communities. While the Rs 7 crore for this sector is modest, it demonstrates the ABS system's effectiveness in generating revenue from diverse biological resources. Overall, the National Biodiversity Authority received approximately Rs 9.6 crore from various sectors, including contributions from international entities.
