Bihar Brothers Develop Magnetic Filter to Remove Arsenic from Drinking Water

Arsenic levels in Bihar's drinking water have been found to be 70 times above safe limits, posing significant health risks like cancer. Two brothers, Arpit and Abhijeet, developed a magnetic filtration technology as a school project to address this crisis. Their innovation uses molecular-level magnetic separation, avoiding conventional chemicals. Field pilots have successfully reduced arsenic levels to below 2 ppb. Their startup, Navmarg Research & Innovation, has since provided over 3.19 million litres of safe water across 13 sites, offering a vital alternative to contaminated hand pumps for millions.

बिहार के पीने के पानी में आर्सेनिक की मात्रा सुरक्षित सीमा से 70 गुना ज़्यादा पाई गई है, जिससे कैंसर जैसी गंभीर स्वास्थ्य समस्याएं हो रही हैं। दो भाइयों, अर्पि‍त और अभिजीत ने इस संकट से निपटने के लिए स्कूल प्रोजेक्ट के तौर पर एक मैग्नेटिक फिल्‍ट्रेशन तकनीक विकसित की है। उनके इस आविष्कार में पारंपरिक रसायनों का इस्तेमाल नहीं होता है और यह मॉलिक्यूलर-लेवल पर मैग्नेटिक सेपरेशन का उपयोग करता है। फील्ड पायलटों ने आर्सेनिक की मात्रा को सफलतापूर्वक 2 ppb से नीचे ला दिया है।
