Indian Bank Deposits Surge to Record $3 Trillion

Business Standard · business

India's banking system deposits have reached an all-time high of approximately 284 trillion rupees, equivalent to $2.99 trillion, as of late September. This significant increase was largely driven by a special discounted swap window introduced by the Reserve Bank of India to attract dollar inflows, which saw inflows of around $133 billion. The scheme, which closed early on August 31, significantly boosted deposits between June and August. Banks also worked to build funding buffers before the quarter's end, contributing to further inflows.
