NGT Seeks Pakur DC's Response On Deaths Linked To Illegal Mining

Times of India · environment

The National Green Tribunal's eastern zone bench has directed the Pakur deputy commissioner to respond to allegations of three to five labourers dying due to illegal mining operations at Kanupur mines. The tribunal questioned whether the deaths occurred, if compensation was paid, and if an inquiry and FIR were conducted. This case stems from a letter petition alleging large-scale illegal stone mining and environmental damage in Pakur district. A joint committee was formed to verify allegations, but its report is delayed, prompting the NGT's stern directive.
