Dalit IIT-B Student's Father Detained At Protest

The father of Darshan Solanki, a Dalit IIT-Bombay student who died by suicide in 2023, was detained by Powai police on Monday. Rameshbhai Solanki was among protesters demonstrating against caste discrimination on the IIT-B campus. The protesters were denied entry to the institute. One protester alleged he was manhandled by police. The father had sought a meeting with the IIT-B director to discuss steps taken after three student suicides this year.

दलित IIT-B छात्र के पिता हिरासत में

सोमवार को IIT-बॉम्बे के दलित छात्र दर्शन सोलंकी के पिता रमेशभाई सोलंकी को पुलिस ने हिरासत में ले लिया। दर्शन ने 2023 में आत्महत्या कर ली थी। रमेशभाई IIT-B परिसर में जातिगत भेदभाव के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन कर रहे थे। प्रदर्शनकारियों को संस्थान में घुसने नहीं दिया गया। एक प्रदर्शनकारी ने पुलिस पर बदसलूकी का आरोप लगाया। पिता ने IIT-B निदेशक से मिलने की मांग की थी।
