Six Common Sugar Substitutes Linked to Faster Brain Aging

Times of India · health

A new study suggests six popular sugar substitutes may accelerate brain aging. Researchers tracked over 12,000 adults for eight years, finding those consuming around 191 milligrams daily experienced a 62% faster decline in thinking and memory skills. This decline was estimated to be equivalent to about 1.6 years of brain aging. The sweeteners linked to cognitive decline include aspartame, saccharin, acesulfame K, erythritol, sorbitol, and xylitol, with tagatose being the only exception. The association was more pronounced in individuals under 60.
