IDBI Bank Shares Dip 7% After Fairfax Deal Gets Cabinet Approval
Economic Times Markets · stocks
IDBI Bank shares dropped over 7% to Rs 83.87 on Thursday, following a significant surge the previous day. This decline is attributed to investors booking profits after the Union Cabinet approved Fairfax's acquisition of a 60.72% stake for Rs 52,878.08 crore. The deal, which marks a major step in the bank's transformation, will see the government retain 15% and LIC 19% stakes. This transaction is poised to be the largest foreign direct investment in India's financial sector, aligning with the government's push for private and foreign capital in banking.
