Kolhapur Sugar Cane Price Deadlock Continues; Minister Seeks Millers' Proposals

A crucial meeting in Kolhapur to resolve the sugarcane pricing deadlock between farmer outfits and sugar millers failed to reach a consensus. Farmer representatives, led by Raju Shetti, demanded prices above the Centre's fixed rate, citing high sugar market values. Millers urged farmers to allow operations, highlighting the plight of drought-affected cane cutters. Kolhapur guardian minister Prakash Abitkar will now request financial proposals from millers to find a middle ground. Most mills remain shut due to farmer protests, with Shetti vowing to continue the agitation until a decision is made.

शेतकरी संघटना आणि साखर कारखानदार यांच्यातील ऊस दराच्या गतिरोधावर तोडगा काढण्यासाठी कोल्हापूरमध्ये झालेली एक महत्त्वाची बैठक एकमत साधण्यात अयशस्वी ठरली. राजू शेट्टी यांच्या नेतृत्वाखालील शेतकरी प्रतिनिधींनी, साखरेच्या बाजारातील उच्च मूल्यांचा हवाला देत, केंद्राने निश्चित केलेल्या दरापेक्षा जास्त दराची मागणी केली. मिल मालकांनी दुष्काळग्रस्त ऊस तोडणी करणाऱ्यांच्या व्यथांवर प्रकाश टाकत, शेतकर्‍यांना कामकाज सुरू करण्याची विनंती केली. कोल्हापूरचे पालकमंत्री प्रकाश आबिटकर आता तोडगा काढण्यासाठी मिल मालकांकडून आर्थिक प्रस्ताव मागवतील. शेतकरी आंदोलनामुळे बहुतेक मिल बंद आहेत, तर शेट्टी यांनी निर्णय होईपर्यंत आंदोलन सुरू ठेवण्याचा निर्धार व्यक्त केला आहे.
