A woman's decision in 1981 to invest her inheritance in land on Lasqueti Island has culminated in the permanent protection of 140 acres of mature forest. Domena Diesing and her partner, Bruce Fleming-Smith, collaborated with the BC Parks Foundation to secure this area. Their protected land, combined with the neighbouring Jenkins Bay property, now forms a continuous conservation zone of over 1,000 acres. This initiative connects existing ecological reserves, creating one of the largest protected natural landscapes in Canada's Salish Sea region.
