The Madras High Court has ruled that families of temple employees who die on duty are entitled to compensation, confirming a labour commissioner's decision. The court stated that a temple is an 'establishment' and its employees are considered workmen. This ruling came after the management of Arulmigu Theertha Paleswarar Thirukoil appealed a decision favouring the family of a security guard who died in 2021. The court directed the labour commissioner to expedite the compensation proceedings.
