Two Police Officers Protecting Polio Workers Shot Dead in Pakistan

Gunmen on a motorcycle fatally shot two police officers in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday. The officers were en route to protect polio vaccination teams when the attack occurred. A third officer sustained injuries in the incident. This follows the kidnapping of four other officers protecting polio workers just a day prior. No group has claimed responsibility, but such attacks are often attributed to the Pakistan Taliban, who oppose polio vaccinations. Pakistan and Afghanistan remain the only countries where wild poliovirus is endemic.
