World Bank Data Shows India's Remarkable Progress in Poverty Reduction
Hindustan Times · india
The World Bank's latest data reveals India has made significant strides in reducing poverty over the past decade, achieving one of the fastest declines globally. Extreme poverty has fallen to 2.6% in 2023 from 27.1% in 2011, with lower-middle-income poverty also declining sharply. While rural poverty is twice as likely as urban poverty, and poverty is three times more common among those with no education, inequality has also decreased. Further poverty reduction now depends on boosting productive employment in states like Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
