Monsoon Deficit Hits 13%, Declared Drought Year; Winter Rains Offer Hope

India has officially experienced a drought year as the summer monsoon rainfall recorded a nearly 13% deficit. This marks the fourth lowest seasonal rainfall since 2001 and the 13th lowest since 1901. While most of India faces below-normal rainfall until December, the upcoming northeast monsoon is predicted to bring normal to above-normal showers to the south Peninsular region. This winter rain offers some relief to areas like Tamil Nadu, which also faced a significant deficit during the summer monsoon.

भारत में आधिकारिक तौर पर सूखा वर्ष घोषित हो गया है क्योंकि गर्मियों के मानसून में लगभग 13% की कमी दर्ज की गई है। यह 2001 के बाद चौथा और 1901 के बाद 13वां सबसे कम मौसमी बारिश का रिकॉर्ड है। हालांकि दिसंबर तक भारत के अधिकांश हिस्सों में सामान्य से कम बारिश का सामना करना पड़ेगा, लेकिन आने वाला उत्तर-पूर्वी मानसून दक्षिण प्रायद्वीपीय क्षेत्र में सामान्य से अधिक बारिश लाएगा। यह सर्दियों की बारिश तमिलनाडु जैसे उन इलाकों को कुछ राहत देगी, जिन्हें गर्मियों के मानसून के दौरान भी काफी कमी का सामना करना पड़ा था।
