UAS-B Land Saved From Biotech Park 25 Years

Academics and alumni gathered in Bengaluru on Thursday to commemorate 25 years since they successfully protested the acquisition of 100 acres of University of Agricultural Sciences - Bengaluru (UAS-B) land for a biotech park. The 2001 protest involved students and faculty being chased and beaten by police, with some even embracing trees to prevent their removal. The government, led by Chief Minister S.M. Krishna, eventually withdrew its plans due to the intense agitation.

बेंगलुरु में गुरुवार को यूनिवर्सिटी ऑफ एग्रीकल्चरल साइंसेज - बेंगलुरु (UAS-B) की 100 एकड़ ज़मीन पर बायोटेक पार्क बनाने के सरकारी फैसले के खिलाफ़ 25 साल पहले हुए सफल विरोध को याद किया गया। 2001 के इस आंदोलन में छात्रों और शिक्षकों को पुलिस ने खदेड़ा और पीटा था, कुछ तो पेड़ों से चिपक गए थे। मुख्यमंत्री एस.एम. कृष्णा के नेतृत्व वाली सरकार को ज़बरदस्त विरोध के चलते अपनी योजना वापस लेनी पड़ी थी।
