A Russian expert stated that the US openly admitting to deploying weapons in orbit will trigger political and technical responses. Dmitry Stefanovich noted that while space surveillance assets have existed for a while, the US may now be deploying systems with a more active impact on other satellites. Russia and China have previously proposed a treaty to prevent weapons in space.
