French President Emmanuel Macron has condemned "failures in anticipation and intelligence" by authorities following violent nationwide cost-of-living protests. Despite these shortcomings, Macron has refused the resignation of Interior Minister Laurent Nunez. Opposition politicians had called for Nunez's removal after the mass rallies turned violent. The protests resulted in nearly 2,400 arrests and almost 1,000 police and gendarmes injured, marking some of the worst urban violence in France in years.
