Goa Agri Dept to Advise Farmers on Short-Duration Crops Amidst Water Shortage

Goa's agriculture department will advise farmers to switch to short-duration vegetables and pulses for the upcoming Rabi season due to the driest monsoon in five decades. Rainfall has fallen nearly a third below normal, leading to concerns about irrigation water scarcity. Director of agriculture Chandrahas Desai stated that farmers in water-stressed areas should opt for crops with a 60-day growth cycle. Those with sufficient water can continue with paddy cultivation.

गोवा का कृषि विभाग आने वाले रबी सीजन के लिए किसानों को छोटी अवधि की सब्जियां और दालें उगाने की सलाह देगा, क्योंकि पिछले पांच दशकों में सबसे सूखा मानसून रहा है। बारिश सामान्य से लगभग एक तिहाई कम हुई है, जिससे सिंचाई के पानी की कमी को लेकर चिंताएं बढ़ गई हैं। कृषि निदेशक चंद्रहास देसाई ने कहा कि पानी की कमी वाले इलाकों के किसानों को 60 दिन की फसल अवधि वाली फसलें चुननी चाहिए। जिनके पास पर्याप्त पानी है, वे धान की खेती जारी रख सकते हैं।
