Martha's Vineyard Rejects Large Housing Plan After Seven Meetings

Times of India - India · india

Martha's Vineyard has rejected the Katama Meadows housing proposal, which planned 52 homes on 54 acres, including affordable lots. The Martha's Vineyard Commission voted 10-3 to deny the project after seven lengthy meetings. Developers had proposed 26 below-market lots and 19 market-rate homes, aiming to address housing shortages for essential workers. However, commissioners cited environmental concerns, particularly nitrogen pollution in the nearby Edgartown Great Pond and the loss of woodland. The decision means the land, purchased in 2017, will remain undeveloped unless a new plan is submitted.
