The Atlantic hurricane season is experiencing record quietness this year, largely due to a powerful El Nino phenomenon. No hurricanes have formed yet, and none are expected for at least another week, despite this being the typical peak period. Only five weak tropical storms have occurred. This low activity is attributed to strong wind shear, dry air, and downward winds, which are classic El Nino impacts that prevent storm formation.
