Yen Volatility Sparks Intervention Watch
Economic Times · stocks
The Japanese yen showed slight gains after a significant drop last week, leading to speculation of intervention by Tokyo authorities. Japan's markets were closed, contributing to low liquidity and heightened trader alertness. The Bank of Japan recently raised rates to 1.25%, its highest in 31 years, but this move failed to boost the yen due to disappointing guidance. Officials reportedly conducted rate checks, a precursor to intervention, amid ongoing global rate hikes.
