Supreme Court Slams High Court Over Murder Conviction Sentence Reduction

The Supreme Court has expressed strong displeasure with the Chhattisgarh High Court for reducing a murder convict's life sentence to 10 years. The apex court noted that the High Court failed to adequately consider the severity of injuries, the weapon used, and the circumstances of the incident. A bench questioned if the High Court judges understood the difference between sections of the Indian Penal Code related to culpable homicide.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने छत्तीसगढ़ हाई कोर्ट द्वारा हत्या के दोषी की उम्रकैद की सज़ा को 10 साल तक कम करने पर गहरी नाराज़गी जताई है। शीर्ष अदालत ने कहा कि हाई कोर्ट ने चोटों की गंभीरता, इस्तेमाल किए गए हथियार और घटना के हालात पर ठीक से गौर नहीं किया। एक बेंच ने सवाल किया कि क्या हाई कोर्ट के जजों को भारतीय दंड संहिता की हत्या से जुड़ी धाराओं के बीच का अंतर समझ आया।
