East Africa Breaks Ground on Dangote's USD 16 Billion Lamu Oil Refinery

Five East African heads of state attended the ground-breaking ceremony for a USD 16 billion oil refinery in Kenya's Lamu town, spearheaded by Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote. The project aims to boost the continent's self-sufficiency in processing raw materials into finished products. Expected to process 700,000 barrels of oil daily, the refinery is scheduled for completion in 40 months. Leaders emphasized the critical need for Africa to industrialize and build its own industrial capacity, rather than exporting raw materials and importing finished goods.
