Billionaire Donald Bren has helped preserve 57,500 acres of California's historic Irvine Ranch as public open space and parklands. This represents about 60% of the original 93,000-acre property. The conservation effort, spanning decades, involved transferring land to public agencies for recreation and conservation. In 2006, a significant portion received National Natural Landmark status due to its unique geological formations and rare habitats. The Irvine Ranch Conservancy was established to manage these landscapes, undertaking habitat restoration and trail maintenance.
