Tamil Nadu Extends Special Officers' Rule In Rural Local Bodies Till April 2027

The Tamil Nadu government has extended the term of special officers administering rural local bodies in 28 districts until April 19, 2027. Additionally, special officers have been appointed to manage rural local bodies in nine other districts until the same date. This decision comes as the delimitation and reservation processes are still underway following the merger of rural and urban local bodies. Elections cannot be held until these exercises are completed, necessitating the extension of the special officers' tenure.

तमिलनाडु सरकार ने 28 जिलों में ग्रामीण स्थानीय निकायों का प्रशासन करने वाले विशेष अधिकारियों का कार्यकाल 19 अप्रैल 2027 तक बढ़ा दिया है। इसके अतिरिक्त, नौ अन्य जिलों में ग्रामीण स्थानीय निकायों के प्रबंधन के लिए भी उसी तारीख तक विशेष अधिकारियों की नियुक्ति की गई है। यह निर्णय ग्रामीण और शहरी स्थानीय निकायों के विलय के बाद परिसीमन और आरक्षण की प्रक्रियाएं अभी भी जारी रहने के कारण लिया गया है। इन अभ्यासों के पूरा होने तक चुनाव नहीं कराए जा सकते, जिससे विशेष अधिकारियों के कार्यकाल को बढ़ाना आवश्यक हो गया है।
